Live: OXJAM CALDERDALE

A number of gigs are in the pipeline for the remainder of this year and for Spring of 2018, some solo acoustic, some with a few of The Folded Arms, and then a few with the whole band – we cover a geography from Blackpool down to Hemel Hempstead so sometimes full band gigs can take a bit of organising. I am delighted to confirm that John Reed & The Folded Arms will be opening at The Trades club in Hebden Bridge for OXJAM CALDERDALE at 2pm on Sunday 29 October.

Oxfam should need no introduction. They are a high profile, global movement who share the belief that in a world rich in resources, poverty isn’t inevitable. Oxfam act to raise living standards and sanitation for millions of people around the world. As part of their awareness programme they launched the Oxjam music gigs around the UK in 2006. These are full day musical festivals involving local bands and artists playing exclusive songs while raising money for Oxfam and the great work they do.

OXJAM CALDERDALE will host live music in a number of venues between Friday 27 and Sunday 29 October and it will be a huge honour for us to play at the Trades Club. You only have to read the list of previous performers to understand the quality of the venue, and for us this event ticks all our boxes: a quality gig where we can play our original music while supporting a recognised worldwide charity that exists to help those less fortunate than ourselves. While I may write the songs, I pretty much leave the others to make their own contributions both in recording and in live performances. Our music combines a cittern, tabla (the only drum we use), violin, electric and bass guitars, and two wonderful backing vocalists.

We will be playing songs from Moorscape, Dry The Life, and new songs from next year’s double album The Breeding Ground Of Vile. Among that lot there will be at least two songs that we have not played live before. So get down to the Trades Club on 29th October and support us and the other artists in raising m money and awareness for Oxfam through OXJAM CALDERDALE.
