New Releases

They say timing is everything, but I think it’s about people really. The people in your life drive its timeline, and subsequent coincidences and happy accidents are the result of the things that you do. You make your own luck just as you create your own misfortune. Well that’s the philosophical bit out of the way.

Monthly Song Previews

We are half way through a double album for 2018 The Breeding Ground Of Vile, and to mark that milestone I am previewing one song every month for the next 9 months, first on Music For Grown Ups (Meridian 107fm Radio) on a selected Thursday night, then followed by a 2 hour temporary upload to https://soundcloud.com/you/tracks  the following evening from 6pm. The next 2 hour upload will be The Judge, which tells a story of retribution on a people trafficker. The last one was the version of The Madness that will be used on the new album, featuring two of the nicest people you will ever meet, The Lewinskies from Canada. As I said, it’s the people in your life that drive its timeline.

 The Madness EP

Back in May it was a delight to record with, accommodate, and play live with The Lewinskies, Matthew Lewis and Kristen Hatt-Lewis. The recording was loosely planned, but it was our intention to collaborate on a few of each others’ songs and see where it took us. We worked together on four songs, three of mine and one of theirs, initially with the idea of creating bonus tracks to go along with the album. The extra dimension they provided to my songs, with Kristen’s accordion and vocals and Matthews precise guitar playing, quickly changed my thinking.

So as well as the monthly 2 hour uploads and previews, and next year’s double album, I have decided to release The Madness EP sometime in October. This will comprise two progressive folk versions of the title track that lean more towards prog than folk, new versions of Standing Stones and The Burning Gates of Hell featuring The Lewinskies, Ocean (written  as a thank you to The Lewinskies), and a new track that takes us into blues-folk territory which was mainly recorded live a few weeks ago. So look out for it!

New Single – Fall

While all that was going on, I became so exasperated with the lies of politicians, especially our Prime one, that I brought forward a song that was originally destined for release a couple of days before next week’s Conservative Party Conference in the city where I live, and where they are most unwelcome for many. “Fall” is what I hope will happen to both our Prime Minister and her band of disingenuous and deluded political brothers and sisters in arms, and very soon. I make no apologies for the anger in the song or for its factual content.

Live Dates

And so to October. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to October! We have gigs at the beginning and the end of the month. I have two solo sets prepared for Friday 6th October at Chorley Live, and two gigs with The Folded Arms there on Saturday 7th where the set will be slightly, and possibly a lot, different! The band and I also have the pleasure of opening proceedings for Oxjam Calderdale at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge at 2pm on Sunday 29th. A number of songs that feature in these gigs have never been played live before, and versions of one or two of the others may surprise you. “So come along and join us”. Ticket links and links to currently released songs are provided below.
